The Characteristics of Student Loan Borrowers

On September 21, the Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid office — which oversees the United States’ federal grants, loans and work-study student financial aid — released its third quarter report on the $1.34 trillion federal student loan portfolio. For the first time, those reports included detailed characteristics of student loan borrowers. I visualized those statistics to tell a story about borrowers' location, age, and school types attended.
